My Mum taught me to knit as a child and, in my teens, I was called an idiot by an unhelpful teacher when I changed schools mid-term and didn’t know how to use a sewing machine. She advised me to teach myself to crochet instead of learning sewing techniques!! I started with granny squares and wore the (fashionable in the ‘70s!) tank top I crocheted. Tunisian crochet followed, when I found instructions in a Woman & Home magazine a while later. I designed gloves for my dad using the two stitches from the magazine and, when my ‘children’ left home, I used these same basic stitches to crochet blankets for them. Imagine my excitement a few years ago when I discovered many more Tunisian crochet stitches and techniques for me to learn! Tunisian crochet is my favourite, most relaxing yarn-based craft and I still don’t like sewing!

My husband affectionately called my son and me ‘curly mop-tops’ so this name seemed appropriate for the unique hairstyles of the latest additions to our family! Keep them close to combat stress!
